The Paleo diet is based on the eating habits of our ancestors in the Paleolithic. Meat, fish, vegetables, nuts, fruits, and eggs are therefore on the menu.
“It sees herself not only as a diet for weight loss but also as a permanent nutritional concept,” explains Dr. Elke Arms, nutritionist.
Already since 1975, there are recommendations for Paleo diet. They are based on choosing only foods that were available as staple foods in times of hunters and gatherers. The Paleo concept assumes that the body is still genetically adapted to the ancestral diet.
Thus, one only stays healthy and efficient when avoiding foods that did not exist at the time. These include, for example, cereals and bread, milk and dairy products, as well as sugar and vegetable oils. Its ingredients, such as the gluten contained in the grain are responsible for the development of today’s civilization diseases, according to the Paleo diet. Fast food, canned and processed foods are avoided by people who feed on Paleo.
Paleo relies on natural and high-quality food. The important ingredient is the “Superfoods”. These are foods that are to be eaten on a daily basis because, according to the opinion of Paleo’s representatives, they are considered to be particularly nutritious.
These include bones, foods fermented with lactic acid bacteria or kefir cultures (intestinal health should be promoted), meat and fish. Also, fruits and vegetables, which originate from regional cultivation and have a low fructose content as well as many roughages, are to be preferred. In addition, nuts, spices, and herbs are part of the Paleo diet.
The Paleo diet promises a dietary success without counting calories. In addition, it is also seen as a permanent diet to increase performance. Various diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and the psyche should be positively influenced. For athletes, the Paleo diet is recommended to promote muscle growth.
